Winter, 2008

Where to start?  As a rule, things tend to be rather hectic at Colonial Radio…and I think the last few months have certainly not been the exception.  There are really just too many neat things I could talk about…Like our upcoming “Father Brown Mysteries”, or “King Solomon’s Mines”, or even the “Powder River Mountain of Gold” special (which is a real hoot by-the-way).  I could update everyone on the trials and tribulations of trying to bring “Dibble” to the small screen … then again, “Tom Swift”, or Ray Bradbury’s “The Halloween Tree” could also merit a comment or two.  There are just too many fun things to talk about.

However, I think I will let Jerry’s blog keep you in the loop on those projects (at least for now anyway). So instead, I would like to bring up a small little matter that really is a big step for us.  Those of you who have been following us from the beginning know that we got our start selling historically accurate audio dramas through various National Park Service stores, and Museum stores around Boston.  For nearly a decade, our “Battle Road” program was a perennial best selling in Concord and Lexington, as were our “Old Ironsides” programs in Boston.  Unfortunately, when cassette tapes fell by the wayside, we ended up with lots of un-salable tapes, and not much money to convert these wonderful programs to more salable Compact Discs.

After a number of false starts (with various publishers), it just seemed that these programs would never make it to CD.  Well, as of early January, I am pleased to say that “Battle Road”, and our two “Old Ironsides” programs are now finally available on CD (and easily purchased from Amazon.com)!  It has been way too long.  Hopefully, if these sell well, other titles such as “Bunker Hill”, “Alamo”, “Plimoth Adventure” and “Little Big Horn” will follow suit.  I would very much like to thank Chris White at the USS Constitution Museum gift store for being the first Boston based store to stock these programs on CD.  Chris has been a long time supporter of us here at Colonial Radio, and we are proud to once again be part of “Old Ironside’s” gift store.  If you ever happen to be cruising Boston, you need to be certain to drop in and give your best to Chris.

Take Care,

THIS JUST IN ….

I am thrilled to announce that this summer Colonial Radio will produce our first outing in science fiction … and boy, are we in good hands!  The incredibly talented actor/ writer, and TV icon WALTER KOENIG, wrote a great book called BUCK ALICE AND THE ACTOR-ROBOT … and this summer the book will be recorded as an audio play by Colonial.  Mr. Koenig is perhaps best known as Pavel Chekov in the original cast of STAR TREK, and also on Babylon 5 as Alfred Bester. He will be overseeing the script writing, which is in the hands of Deniz Cordell, and he will star in the show as our narrator.  Everyone is very excited about this project!  ~Jerry
